Want to work on the Moon? Google is Hiring!

Lunar_space2

Check out this Job posting on Google Jobs, Google Copernicus Center is hiring.  What should you expect?  Here is brief blurb...  BTW, I know it's a joke!!

Google is interviewing candidates for engineering positions at our lunar hosting and research center, opening late in the spring of 2007. This unique opportunity is available only to highly-qualified individuals who are willing to relocate for an extended period of time, are in top physical condition and are capable of surviving with limited access to such modern conveniences as soy low-fat lattes, The Sopranos and a steady supply of oxygen.

The Google Copernicus Hosting Environment and Experiment in Search Engineering (G.C.H.E.E.S.E.) is a fully integrated research, development and technology facility at which Google will be conducting experiments in entropized information filtering, high-density high-delivery hosting (HiDeHiDeHo) and de-oxygenated cubicle dwelling. This center will provide a unique platform from which Google will leapfrog current terrestrial-based technologies and bring information access to new heights of utility.

Ya gotta love Google!!

Time To Get The Band Back Togather!

Ejamming_1

Back in the day (early 80"s to be exact), my buddies and I were captivated by a new channel that cropped up on our cable TV system called MTV.  After seeing the same (40) videos over and over we all came to the quick realization that we should form a band of our own.  After all, if "Men Without Hats" could make a video why couldn't we?  Shortly there after our band "Son of A" was born.  Well are dreams of becoming famous and chick magnets were dashed when our lead singer told us he was moving to Omaha Nebraska, the dream died right then and there and I never picked up a guitar again.  Why have I bored you all with this tragic tale from the 80"s?  A new piece of software that I played with last night called eJamming which really made we wonder "what if" this software and the Internet would have been available back in the early 80"s?    Essentially, eJamming is a piece of software that allows musicians and bands to jam in real time across the net.  I was skeptical about latency issues and sound quality when I first downloaded the software but I was very surprised by the quality of the session and the software's ability to allow you to jam with others in another state or country.  Who knows maybe "Son of A" has a future after all!!

Great Software For Transfering TV Shows To Ipod/PSP

Mytvtogo

One of the things that has frustrated me for a number of months is the difficult process of getting TV shows recorded from your Media Center PC or Tivo Series 2 box on to your Ipod or PSP.  I know, I know, there are numerous ways to get this done but none of them are quite as simple as MyTvToGo. With the mytvtogo software the process is easy as pie and requires no user intervention once setup.  I highly recommend you checkout this software!

The Last Prize Giveaway!!!

Prize_1

Well, you might say that I saved the best for the last!  I have decided to change things up a bit and give this very valuable prize away a little differently.  As I stated in an earlier post, my intent of the prize giveaway was to increase the viewership to my new site.  I must admit, that the traffic numbers have been a little disappointing so I have decided to alter the contest for this giveaway.  I will reward the prize to the individual who is able to get the most Diggs from www.digg.com regarding a story submission regarding my site (sleekgeek.com).  I will reserve the right to disqualify any individual who's posting I find offensive or misleading. The prize will remain a mystery, but is valued at $2,600 and any technology enthusiast or gadget lover would want this device, I assure you.  Please email me at greg.smith@sleekgeek.com with your story submission details and proof of authorship.  The contest will run through 12:00pm est tomorrow.  Let the contest begin!!

XP on Mactel

Macwin

Update: 3-16-06 -  It's official, Colin Nederkoorn has verified that narf2006 has successfully booted XP on the MacTel platform according to the rules of the contest.  Narf2006 has won over $13,000, I expect that we will see the instructions out in a matter of days.

A little background first:  Colin Nederkoorn created a contest and a web site to challenge the Technology community to see who could be the first person to boot XP on a MacTel platform.  The rules associated with the contest are listed below:

  1. Instructions must boot Windows XP (at least), not Vista or any other version of Windows.
  2. Windows must be able to coexist with Mac OS X and each system may not interfere with the operation of the other (basically a traditional dual boot system where one OS is running at a time)
  3. Your method, upon starting the computer, must offer the user to boot either OS X or Windows XP (hint: GRUB / LILO)
  4. The first person to post complete instructions, including pictures of the boot process to The Forum will be the winner. Instructions will be peer reviewed once they are received and once the solution is guaranteed working, the prize money will be transferred via paypal
  5. You give this website the rights to post your solution exclusively
  6. If it is determined impossible to boot Windows on the Mac by March 23, 2006 March 30, 2006 (7 day delay), all donations will be donated to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. If you donated prior to 2006/01/23 2:10pm CST, and you do not wish to donate to charity, I will return your money minus the paypal fee
  7. You cannot use virtualization software such as Xen or VMWare

Here is the latest, it appears that narf2006 may be the the winner of the contest!  narf2006 has provided a video of the MacTel desktop bootong XP.  The video leads me to believe that narf2006 may have actually accomplished what some thought impossible.  We will wait to see if Colin confirms narf2006 claim in the coming days but I highly doubt this is a fake given the video and narf2006 reputation.  If your interested in the contest or video, links are provided below.

Off Topic, But To Good Not To Post

Burger_195

The Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League promised to create "Baseball's Best Burger" in time for the team's opener in late May. And they appear to have succeeded.

The ballpark sandwich will include a hamburger topped with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon -- all between a "bun" made of a sliced Krispy Kreme Original Glazed donut.

If you can find a (loop)hole in your cardiologist's advice, calorie counters predict the monster will set you back about 1,000 calories and 45 grams of fat.

Mmmmmm....
